International activities
The Evangelical Lutheran Parish Union of Vaasa welcomes you!
Our activities are open to persons of all nationalities, backgrounds and denominations. We wish to simply offer you a place where you can share fellowship with Christians, no matter your own conviction. You might get new friends and that often helps if you have to make “new beginnings in a new place”.
There are many activities and events that are in Finnish or Swedish and they are also open to everyone if you don´t feel the language is a problem. The immigrant work has activities that are especially planned for “international people” and we form quite a big international family if we all would get together at the same time.
Activities and Events

Tule ja osallistu jumalanpalveluksiin ja muuhun toimintaan sillä kielitaidolla, mikä sinulla on. You are welcome to participate in all activities arranged by the Evangelical Lutheran Parishes in Vaasa. On this page we mention some that are especially for us multicultural people. Finns are also welcome.
Sunday Service/Prayer in English in Palosaari Church Kapteeninkatu 14–16 every Sunday at 1 p.m. 13.1. – 26.5. Once a month we celebrate a service with the Holy Communion. Refreshments and fellowship afterwards. Your help is needed with welcoming, music, kitchen, reading, Sunday School, etc.
Saturday Biblestudy in English will start if needed. Don`t hesitate to have a contact and ask!
Sudanese Service and Sunday School in Arabic, Sundays at 3 p.m. in Ristinummi Chapel Kappelinmäentie 8. Sometimes together with Finnish congregation.
Paluumuuttajien kerho in Finnish for those from Ingria and other Russian-Speakers on Mondays 10.30 a.m. in Ristinummi Chapel, Kappelinmäentie 8. Starts in January 14th.
Floorball for young adults and students. Come and learn/play for fun! Tuesdays in Vuorikatu 11 (school gym) at 7 p.m. starting 8.1. (no game 15.1. and 7.5.!)
Confirmation School in English starts on Wednesday February 6th at 5 p.m.in address Koulukatu 28. It will continue every second Wednesday until Easter. For more information ask immigrantworker. Sign up at latest January the 31st to the immigrantworker.
On February 13th Ash Wednesday Desert Mass in many languages in Vaasa Church at 6.30 p.m.
International Womens Day Party at Palosaari Parish Hall on March 8th at 5.30 p.m.
Multicultural Weekend at Alskat campgroud outside the town in March 9.–10.3. Sharing and learning together. Ask the camp fee and other information when signing to the immigrantworker in February.
Ask for:
- Confirmation School for adults in English for those who want to learn more about Jesus, be baptised and become a member of the Lutheran Church.
- Lutheran Services in German are being held in Vaasa every now and then.
- The Anglican Church has Services in Vetokannas Church in Arabic and English.
To Inform You
You can find the information about most of the activities in the various Lutheran Churches in Vaasa or in the local newspapers. Some information is distributed to the homes along with the advertising.
